Laden La Road in Darjeeling

If Nehru Road is the shopping hub of Darjeeling, Laden La Road is where most offices are located. If you stand in front of the Keventer’s at 1, Nehru Road with your back towards the Chowrasta Mall, you will have two roads in front of you. The road on the left is our Laden La Road while the one on right is called the Gandhi Road.

The Two Arms of Nehru Road

Gandhi Road, which is actually an extension of the Nehru Road, is also an important road. It houses some important buildings such as the PWD Dak Bungalow, PWD Inspection Bungalow, Irrigation Bungalow, Circuit House etc.  Apart from Star hotels such as Hotel Sinclairs and Swiss Hotel, there are quite a few budget hotels located on this road.

However, if you want to have any work done, you will have to come down to the Laden La Road for as we have already said, this is the road, which houses all important offices. Starting from Nehru Road it goes all the way down to meet the Hill Cart Road near Darjeeling railway station.

Important Offices on Laden La Road

Perhaps the most important building on Laden La Road is the municipal building. Since the municipality was established in 1850, it is also one of the oldest structures on this road.  Another heritage building located in this part of the town is the head post office. Besides those two buildings, the road also houses the office of the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of the Police.

Banks on Laden La Road

Laden La Road also houses many important banks. Among them, the State Bank of India is an important landmark. Axis Bank Ltd, HDFC Bank Ltd and Corporation Bank are some other banks located in the vicinity. ICICI ATM is also located on this street.

Among the financial institutes, we can mention DialaBank.com. It is affiliated with number of banks and other financial institutes and offers different categories of loans such as home loan, personal loan, auto loan etc at a reasonable interest.

Cinema Hall On Laden La Road

However, Laden La Road is not all about offices and banks. It is also about fun and entertainment. It houses a number of shops, hotels, restaurants, fitness centers etc. Indeed, Inox Leisure, Darjeeling’s only multiplex, is located on this very road.

Shops and Malls on Laden La Road

Laden La Road also offers great opportunity for shopping. The Rink Mall housing Inox multiplex and Big Bazar is located on this road. Another important address on this road is Nathmul Tea Export. Located at Chanchan Mansion near State Bank of India, it is said to be one of the oldest and most reliable tea vendors in the town. Besides these, there are many other shops, which sells everything from clothing, medicines and wine to furniture and motor parts.
  

Budget Hotels and Restaurants on Laden La Road

If you are looking for budget hotels in Darjeeling, you should come to Laden La Road. Some of the hotels located here are Hotel Apsara, Hotel Sagarika, Hotel Prestige, Hotel Raj Palace, Plaza Hotel, Hotel Yuma, Hotel Swati, Hotel Ascot, Hotel Red Rose etc. Besides, the road also houses upscale resorts such as Maryland Resort and R.J. Resort.

Apart from Keventer’s, which is located at the juncture of Laden La Road and Nehru Road, there are some truly good eateries located in this area. If you are in a mood for a pizza, you may visit Domino’s at the Rink Mall. Lotus Restaurant and Boney’s Snack Bar are two of the good places to eat.
