As soon as I reached Darjeeling I got to know some interesting facts about tea. In 1841, Dr. Campbell, the first superintendent of Darjeeling managed to plant some Chinese seeds in his bungalow garden. It is believed that it is from then since tea was invented. Slowly after the huge success of Dr. Campbell’s experiment, Darjeeling Government provided with lands where entrepreneurs got a chance to start up their own tea plantation business. Darjeeling’s climatic condition was so favorable for tea plantation that slowly this became the main source of income for the people of Darjeeling.
When I wanted to know about the history behind this famous tea room of Darjeeling I visited the Nathmull’s Tea Room one evening. I ordered a cup of Masala Tea and started looking for information. I came to know that this company was founded by Mr. Nathmull Sarda in the year 1931. He originated from Rajasthan and took interest in tea market. His next generation also found interest in this business and his son Mr. Nandlall Sarda later started marketing his company.
He started with supplying to tea buyers of Calcutta and later he ended up putting a retail shop on Laden La Road in Darjeeling.

Darjeeling is famous for manufacturing tea and nearly all tea rooms located in Darjeeling involve in manufacturing their own tea and they also maintain their own tea garden. Without manufacturing the best quality of tea it is not possible to deliver the lip smacking tea. The main steps involved in producing tea are plucking, weighment, withering, rolling, fermentation, firing, sorting, and packing. These are the most important steps that are involved with tea manufacturing.
I visited the main store that resides in Laden-La Road, Darjeeling. The landmark of this store is the State Bank of India which is just opposite to it. The landmark makes it more identifiable. This place is a good hangout place for people of Darjeeling and is also a tourist destination. As I was enjoying the tea it was time for sunset and I enjoyed the amazing sunset view from the lounge itself. Along with some vegetarian snacks, this lounge offers a wide variety of different flavors of Tea.
