NGOs in Darjeeling
It is a fact that that however efficient governmental machinery may be, it is not possible to solve all the problems unless the civil society comes forward to take part in the social progress. In Darjeeling too, we find a number of nongovernmental organizations trying to usher peace and prosperity for the people of this region. Although they work in various fields, their ultimate aim is to bring about all round development of this region. It is hoped that their honest effort will soon change the socio economic scenario of the hills. Following are the names and contact details of some such NGOs –

As has been already mentioned, all these NGOs are working in various fields. While some of them are determined to protect the biodiversity of the region and thereby reduce natural disaster, others are more concerned with the human resources. Then again, those who are working with human resources also have different areas of focus. While some put stress on stopping human trafficking, others are working among the HIV/AID patients. Education is also another area of their concern for they believe unless the mass is educated no real development can take place. Another unique point is that most of these nongovernmental organizations are actually working hand in hand so that maximum benefit can reach the greatest number of people. Let us hope their effort will not go in vain and very soon the Queen of Hills will soon become a Paradise on Earth.
